Our deep dive into the rental scene in Paris takes us to the Latin Quarter, and a particularly lovely, old-school apartment run by the appropriately named Paris Perfect.

PARIS – I walk up age-old stairs in a medieval building and am greeted warmly by a lovely couple. They show me around, give me local dining tips, and then leave me in their home, the Luberon apartment I have been given by the rental agency Paris Perfect.

I take it all in. It's warm, sophisticated, and comfortable — old-world French meets elegant comfort in a rustic setting. The couple had painstakingly renovated their space, transforming it into a cozy and luxurious hideaway that I could happily live in forever.

An open plan kitchen and dining room anchor the apartment; centuries-old beams line the ceiling. A dreamlike Marie Antoinette bedroom decorated in rich satins is off to the side. This apartment is a gem.

I had just left the Latin Quarter and the Panthéon around the corner. The popular open-air market, and restaurants lining the street. But I feel worlds away from the bustle upstairs.

The building dates to the 1600s and has retained original stonework, tiles, and those beautiful restored wooden beams. The decor follows suit, with antique chandeliers, old portraits, a weathered chest of drawers, a sofa to sink into, and a great selection of books piled on a wood table within arms' reach.

The kitchen has been fully modernized, with stainless steel appliances that blend into the historic setting and a table for eating. The Paris Perfect team had left a welcome basket filled with such delicious local snacks as hot chocolate from Angelina. A small window looks out into the courtyard below.

Other modern touches include WiFi, AC, and free calls from the landline to select countries.

Paris Perfect staff can do everything — grocery shopping, reserving top restaurants (they have a specialized food team), booking tickets to events, and generally helping to navigate the city. And although I'm aware of the numerous attractions nearby — the Panthéon, the Institute du Monde Arabe, the Luxembourg Gardens, and the touristy but terrific scenes at Brasserie Lipp and Café Flore — I think I'll stay in a little longer.
