Just don't. Look. Down. There's adrenaline rush everytime we look at the work of Hong Kong native Elaine Li, one of our 24 Best Travel Photographers 2016. We're mesmerized by her striking urban cityscapes — daringly taken from rooftops high above the streets.

Tell us a little about yourself

I was born and raised in Hong Kong, and currently work there as an art director. I’ve also spent time in Melbourne, Chicago, and San Francisco. I enjoy shooting a variety of subjects, including cityscapes, landscapes, urban adventures, and people.

How would you describe your photography style?

I'm not sure if I have a distinct photography style. My style evolves over time. I like experimenting with new things, like urban exploration. Looking at Hong Kong from its rooftops, I really get to experience the density of its buildings. Visiting abandonded spaces, I get to learn about the culture of Hong Kong's past.

What do you love most about photographing on the road?

Cityscapes and architecture are always fun to shoot, but I love photographing the people I meet on the road the most. It's always more interesting when there's a story behind the photo. And I love learning about people from different countries with different backgrounds.

Where are you headed next?

I'm traveling to Zhangjiajie in China with eleven other Instagrammers from Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. It'll be a photography focused trip, so I'm really excited to see the kind of shots we'll be taking!
