CHECKING IN

Overview

DENVER, CO — In the beige-ification era of hotels, there is something refreshing about checking into a space full of colors and stories. The cheerful creak of an antique-wood floorboard and light flickering through a stained-glass window are rare (and luxurious!) details found in the new Urban Cowboy Denver, the first western outpost of the keep-the-good-times-rolling American heritage brand with properties in Nashville and the Catskills. Duo Lyon Porter and Jersey Banks transformed hat tycoon and politician George Schleier's historic 1800's mansion in Denver into a 16-room hotel brimming with history. Guests are invited to play house throughout the beautifully curated spaces lovingly restored and filled with hand-picked antiques from the couple's road trips across the U.S. (one favorite highlight is a 19th-century hand-carved wooden saloon bar from the Wooden Nickel in Cincinnati). The brand's signature amenity, a copper clawfoot bathtub, is found in each room, and the penthouse suite has a pair of side by side tubs. In true Urban Cowboy fashion, a lively dive bar awaits in the mansion's former carriage house, now serving wood-fired pizzas and creative cocktails. Outdoor fire pits warm the crisp mountain air and the hotel's signature motto "Arrive as strangers, leave as friends" rings true with travelers and locals alike sharing tales of western explorations late into the night.

What's On Site

The brand's whimsical maximalism is on full display in sixteen guest rooms, each uniquely designed with custom wallpaper, warming electric fireplaces, and cozy Pendleton blankets. Refreshingly devoid of TVs, rooms invite romantic nights in, with curated amenities like bubble bath accoutrements, snacks, wine, and candles.

While the guest rooms are designed as private hideaways, the mansion's shared spaces entice travelers to connect — by dancing down the original wood staircase carved with gargoyles, sipping martinis in the Parlor Room, and cozying up to the original tiled fireplaces.

Food & Drink

The mansion's former carriage house was redesigned as Public House Bar, a local watering hole for guests and Denver locals. Little Johnny B’s slings pizzas in the wood-fired oven as lively bartenders shake cocktails in front of an elaborate wooden mantle.

This Place Is Perfect For

Couples, dreamers, and travelers who want to feel like they've stepped into a gold rush fantasy while having access to the hustle and bustle of the modern Mile High City.

But Not So Perfect For

There's a cool honor system — privacy without hovering. So if you want 24/7 room service, concierge, and lots of front-of-house chit-chat, this isn't your place.

The Surroundings

Although you feel transported to the wild west (and wouldn't blink if your Uber was actually a horse and buggy), the vibrant Capitol Hill neighborhood is right outside the door. To stay on theme, visit the Molly Brown House Museum, the restored historic home of the "unsinkable" Titanic survivor, played by Kathy Bates in the movie. On a sunny day, bring a picnic to nearby Cheesman Park, shop and bar hop on Colfax Avenue, or get inspired at Denver Art Museum.
