This February, Valentine's Day will conveniently fall on the Friday of Presidents' Day weekend, combining the holidays for an extra dose of love — and vacation days. So skip the tacky crowded restaurant and store-bought chocolate and take someone you dig (or just yourself) on a trip instead.

For International Lovers

Anguilla: Overlooking the sugar-white sands of Meads Bay and Turtle Cove, Malliouhana, an Auberge Resort, recently underwent a multi-million dollar renovation and now has new suites, a spa, and beach safaris. Travelers looking for respite from freezing winter temps can take up to 33% off their stay with the More Nights, More Malliouhana offer: Stay 5 nights, get 1 night free; or 7 nights, 2 nights free; or 9+ nights, with 3 nights free. Includes $100 resort credit. Use promo code: LONGER

Slovenia: Who wants Hersheys when you can head to a chocolate-themed glampsite on the Drava River near Maribor Pohorje ski resort in an undiscovered corner of Europe? With a steaming cup of hot cocoa in hand, guests can retreat to a panoramic treehouse or a cabin with a private Jacuzzi and fireplace. Chocolate-themed amenities include tours and tastings at the on-site Teta Frida chocolate factory and chocolate baths at the treetop wellness lodge. Treehouses start at $221/night and are available for instant booking on Pitchup.com

Scotland: Escape to the Scottish highlands at Fife Arms, the luxe, 19th-century palace in Braemar. A romance package available for the month of February includes welcome champagne, pre-dinner drinks at Elsa's cocktail bar, and dinner for two at The Clunie Dining Room. No two rooms are alike here: Each is dedicated to a person or story from Braemar. The hotel is filled with more than 16,000 pieces of art and antiques, including original works by Picasso and Queen Victoria. Spend your weekend exploring the grounds: nature walks with the hotels in-house forager, special picnics, and local excursions and tours of whiskey distilleries.

The Himalayas: Speaking of picnics, how about having one at the peak of Shimla in the Himalayas? Shimla — Wildflower Hall, An Oberoi Resort, is offering couples a private nature walk and picnic basket on the grounds of The Peak, a bungalow dating back to 1863 perched on a hilltop of 8,250 feet, nestled amid ten acres of terraced apple orchards.

For NYC-Based Lovers

New York City: One of our favorite NYC hotels, The Moxy Chelsea in the Flower District, is offering a Floral-Filled Valentines Day package, including a room filled with roses and signature Moxy candles, a bottle of bubbly, and chocolate-covered pretzels by local favorite Fatty Sundays, starting at $219. Single on V-day? Embrace it. The hotel's Anti-Valentine's Day package includes accommodations and access to game night at on-site Bar Feroce where you can hang up a photo of your ex on the dartboard in exchange for a shot at the bar. While you're there, check out nearby J. Bespoke, a speakeasy-style sports bar (in the back of a Devocion coffee shop) that serves craft cocktails for her and games for him. (No, we won't give them points for shattering stereotypes.) This Valentine's Day, the bar will replace its usual sports programming with romantic sports movies like Bull Durham, Jerry Maguire, Love & Basketball, Fever Pitch, and Rocky. The weekend's cocktail, Little Red Corvette, is made with house-made raspberry-infused vodka, fresh ginger, aperol, mint, jalapeno, and garnished with rose buds.

Hudson Valley, New York: An upstate getaway is for the couple who wants un-cheesy romance. Troutbeck is Team Fathom's go-to local hideaway. It's at once historic, low-key, and luxurious. Enjoy breakfasts in bed, a bottle of rosè champagne, house-made chocolates, and, if available, a complimentary upgrade when you book a minimum of three nights.

Lake Placid, New York: NYC Lovebirds looking to embrace the winter chill should book the Rustic Romance Getaway at Whiteface Lodge, including a cabin-style one-bedroom suite, chocolate-dipped strawberries and champagne upon arrival, the spa, hot tubs, game room, ice skating rink, bowling lanes, movie theater, and fire pit with nightly s’mores.

Montauk, New York: The beaches out east are just as beautiful (and way less crowded) in the winter, and the pristine stretch of oceanfront real estate at Gurney's Montauk Resort and Seawater Spa is just as chic. The indoor seawater pool will be open until late, with screenings of poolside movies at 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday of V-Day weekend — pool floats and plenty of champagne included. Bonus points for the multi-sensory themed igloos (how awesome do those sound?), cooking classes, special menus, and workout classes.

For Adventurous Lovers

Hawaii: Other than a slightly higher chance of rain (aka more rainbows), February is a great time for a Hawaiian getaway. You'll get fewer crowds, just as many whale sightings, and lower rates (aka extra cash to splurge on pampering). Four Seasons Resort Lanai Spa Suite Experience offers couples a Salts of the Earth body scrub, followed by an aromatic, hydrating and grounding 90-minute Oceanic Stone Lomi Lomi Massage, as well as scalp and foot masks for top-to-toe relaxation. If you book four nights for the long weekend, your fifth night is free.

Jasper, Canada: For those who like their après ski with a side of pampering, Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge is offering a $300 spa credit when you book for two nights. Rates start at $549 CAD/night.

Baja California, Mexico: Nothing is more romantic than time in the sun. Las Ventanas al Paraíso, a Rosewood Resort is offering a Romantic Getaway in Paradise package for couples with experiences like sleeping under the stars, a personalized message in a bottle, a private in-suite dinners, or a tequila master class. For a more over-the-top love display, rent out the entire striking, nest-structured Nido restaurant at Viceroy Los Cabos, overlooking the water, with a private photographer and specially-designed menu. The Nido Love Nest package starts at $25,000.
