Geren Lockhart's Dream Meals and Where She'll Never Return
Hometown: Placerville, California (birthplace); SoHo, New York (adopted neighborhood).
Occupation: Fashion entrepreneur, lifestyle junkie.
Favorite destinations: Paris, New York, beaches I've yet to visit.
Dying to visit: Thailand, India, Africa, Russia.
Bizarre travel rituals: I have a whole kit of carry-on stuff that probably leaves my neighbors wondering if I'm Monk's weird sister.
In-flight relaxation regime: Put airline pillow in cashmere blanket cover (to keep ickys away from face). Buckwheat pillow, noise canceling earphones, Fresh lip balm, aroma therapy "relaxation" essential oils, Muji socks, etc. I take this very seriously.
Always in carry-on: My computer, my iPad, my iPhone, jewelry, and "in-flight" kit.
Concierge or DIY? DIY, a.k.a. call my fab friends that live around the world.
See it all or take it easy? Both, in equal parts. The prep allows for one to see it all and take it easy at the same time!
Drive or be driven? Drive. Sometimes I end up wondering about this one.
Travel hero: Richard Branson.
Best hotel amenity: Gas mask in the Park Hyatt, Shanghai. (Or is that the worst?)
I dream about my meal at Dos Palilos in Barcelona, best meal of my life. Or meals, as I went back three times in four days.
Everywhere I go, I check out the architecture, contemporary art museums, grocery stores, liquor stores, vintage/flea markets, and stationery stores.
When I arrive in a new place, I learn the lay of the land by keeping my eyes open, and checking in with friends.
I always bring home textiles, stationery, booze, local food stuffs, and hundreds (if not thousands) of photographs.
If I never return to Romania, it'll be too soon because despite my love of travel it's a lost country that left my soul very unhappy.
I travel for the need of it. I want to see as much as I can with my time here.
