Looking for paradise and yearning for an escape? Let’s set the scene. Picture a string of islands stretching along the Indian Ocean hundreds of miles southwest of Sri Lanka. A strand of pearls in the middle of a clear blue sea.

Then zoom in on the quartet in the North Malé Atoll — and you’ve arrived at Patina Maldives, Fari Islands. The newest destination resort in The Maldives is the inaugural Patina Hotels & Resorts, the latest project from the esteemed Capella Hotel Group.

While a big part of the appeal of coming to The Maldives is just how remote they are, the Fari Islands are a mere 45 minute speedboat ride from the international airport. A very picturesque and easy welcome — and only one of many things that will amaze you around here.

Live It

Come on in. The water's lovely.
An aerial view.

Do you prefer an overwater villa or a beach studio? A private pool or a beach house? A deck suspended about the sea or a hammock in the breeze? An oversized outdoor tub or an oversized outdoor shower? An immersive village experience or a serene sunset view?

If you dream it, you can have it.

The warm and striking accommodations consist of 90 one-, two-, or three-bedroom villas overlooking the beach or the water and 20 Fari Studios around vibrant Fari Marina Village, the heart of the resort. Brazilian architect Marcio Kogan and his award-winning Studio MK27 have designed spaces that embrace the best of indoor-outdoor living: floor to ceiling windows, living rooms with glass walls that open onto the sea, and natural elements like bamboo, wood, cotton, and stone in a neutral and soothing palette. Punches of color come courtesy of Mother Nature in the palm trees and the greenery, the endless ocean and the vast sky.

Taste It

The variety is just as rich at the resort’s dozen restaurant concepts, which all use the freshest ingredients, many from Patina Maldives’ own gardens, and embrace the most advanced green practices in an effort to reduce the carbon footprint, minimize food waste, and help preserve these islands for generations to come.

Whatever you’re craving, you’ll find it here. Helios is a symphony of Greek and Mediterranean flavors – hot and cold mezze, grilled seafood and fish. Wok Society evokes the casual and clubby spirit of a Hong Kong eatery with a menu of Asian specialities, dim sum, and craft beers. Brasa channels the spirit of Patagonia with aged steaks grilled on the open fire and small bites inspired by Argentine street food. Roots is the modern, plant-based restaurant, a temple to all good things from the earth. Kōen explores the intersection of Japanese and Nordic cuisines.

The more casual, grab-and-go options are Farine, the all-day European-style bakery and pâtisserie, and Go Go Burgers, when nothing but a burger will do. Tuk Tuk Gelato serves a revolving menu of homemade flavors daily, while Veli Bar offers a variety of light bites al fresco by the pool — pizzas, pokes, salads, curries. At Fari Beach Club, both food and music are overseen by Michelin-starred chef Nick Bril. (Like the music? You can stream it through the resort’s app.) Arabesque, a culinary journey from Lebanon to India, and Tum Tum, an Asian street food truck in the marina, are managed by the Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands.

You’ve stimulated the body; time to stimulate the mind. The resort’s extensive art collection is anchored by Amarta by James Turrell, a permanent installation that explores the interaction of space and light. Other notable art and sculpture can be found throughout the resort — and even on the beach. A collective of artists, progressive thinkers, designers, and musicians who have been invited to collaborate with the resort ensure that guests will have many creative offerings and experiences to choose from — so many that guests are assigned an in-house Essentialist to guide and help plan their visit. That includes guests of all ages, though those aged 4-11 might find themselves happily occupied at Footprints, the solar-powered kids’ club.

Finally, nature is at the forefront of everything in The Maldives, a nation at risk from the perils of rising oceans and climate change. Guests will be reassured to know that that Patina Maldives, Fari Islands, has been a responsible global citizen. The team rescued and planted thousands of plants and trees that would otherwise have been cleared. The resort is largely solar powered; water is preserved and recycled; and you won’t find single-use plastic anywhere.

If ever there was a resort that was right for the moment, it’s Patina Maldives, Fari Island.
