BHUTAN – It's one of the last, lost paradises on earth. I knew it would be overwhelming. I can't stop thinking about the beauty of the country and the kindness of the people.
BERMUDA – The island is covered in tropical plants and brightly painted cottages with white roofs. Lemon yellow, peach, salmon pink — even the churches come in sea-foam green and turquoise.
KERALA, India – Any surprises? A mouse found its way into my bag and spent the night gnawing at a bag of peanuts I had from our flight. I released him back into the sea of rubber trees from which he came.
It’s nice to duck into a dark church and feel the cool, smooth stones, smell the incense of a century’s worth of masses, and observe a quiet space open to everyone.
NEW ZEALAND – Dotted with vineyards, olive groves, and small farms selling fresh goat cheese and alpaca sweaters, Waiheke might just be heaven on earth. The robust red wines and spicy green olive oil bring to mind a mini-Tuscany — only with beaches.
ITALY – They may lack major highways, ATMs, and internet connections, but Italians don't miss a beat when it comes to making lunch. Andrew Grosso takes time to stop and smell the basil.
