Things We're Loving — Vol. 7

Feast

I'm a little obsessed with cookbooks these days, especially the ones that go so much deeper than "this is how you cook a chicken." Two friends, authors Lindsay Anderson and Dana VanVeller, spent five months on an epic road trip across the Great White North. The end product is a book packed with more than a hundred Canadian recipes (who knew there were that many?) and personal stories. ($18) – Becky, assistant editor

Koinobori Travel Laundry Bag

I already have one of these cute Japanese wind socks, but the poor thing gets no air hanging in the middle of my stuffy railroad apartment. A recent bathroom renovation got me thinking about the superior bathing rituals of the Japanese (of course). Maybe a small hinoki bath stool and bucket could turn my morning shower into a daily onsen ritual? The wood is prized for its antibacterial nature and fresh aroma. Cáfe du Monde Beignet Mix

We recently started a new tradition in my house. When we have reason to celebrate, we make beignets. The powdered sugar-covered doughnuts are a favorite in New Orleans; I do my best to recreate the experience with the help of Cafe du Monde's beignet mix and chicory-flavored coffee. Paired with a frothy cafe au lait, the puffy squares are totally worth the time and mess. ($8) – Berit

Étui II Wallet

The Atelier YUL first started making bags for creatives to transport large-format documents like blueprints or artwork. They've since brought their clean aesthetic to smaller accessories. While I have no architectural plans to carry around, I do like the idea of a slim leather sleeve to hold my passport and travel documents. ($70) – Becky

Quay Fleur Sunglasses

Wherever I go, I always have a pair of sunglasses on me, but I'm also constantly losing (or breaking) them, so I stopped dropping cash on fancy new pairs a long time ago. This time around, I'm adding a dash of Melbourne style to my visage with seriously cool and reasonably priced Australian brand Quay. I'm particularly digging the geometry of these rose-gold shades. Monkey Business Magazine

I just got my hands on the latest translated issue of Monkey Business, a contemporary Tokyo-based literary magazine showcasing some of the country's best emerging and established authors. Volume seven, which hasn't yet hit the online shop, includes stories of neighborhood drama, living with a bunny, and encountering a bodhisattva. Good thing the other six are still up for grabs.
