Three Healthy, Wholesome Beauty Products to Pack This Fall

This week on Fathom, it's all about finding the beauty in travel. Literally. We're scoping out the best beauty buys from Boston to Seoul and on airplanes in between. As our weekends fade from Montauk beach trips to thoughts of apple picking in the Hudson Valley, we're starting to feel a change in our skin. We asked Fathom contributor Tara Foley, the owner of Follain, our favorite health and wholesome beauty shop in Boston's South End, for her must-pack picks to help get our skin back on track and feeling refreshed for a new season.
I'm the founder of Follain, a healthy skincare and beauty store with locations in Boston, Nantucket, and online. Our name is Gaelic for "healthy, wholesome, and sound," and we have high standards for ingredient safety. Having tested hundreds of brands to find the highest-performing products out there, we believe that women and men shouldn't have to sacrifice their health or values for beauty.
With a new season approaching, we like to focus on helping our customers and friends detox and reboot. Vacation is over, school's back in session, and people are looking to start off on the right foot. Here are the three beauty products that will help you do this.
1. CHARCOAL CLEANSER
Shamanuti Activated Charcoal Cleanser will help calm and clear your skin of summer clogging caused by sunscreen, sweat, or makeup. Activated charcoal is one of the most adsorbent (yes, that's ad-sorbent) ingredients you can apply to your skin. It latches onto impurities and washes them right down the drain. For daily use, it's definitely best for combination or oily skin, but it also works as a great weekly deep cleaner for any other skin type. I especially love the handy travel size — and never go on a trip without it. The difference in water and food when I'm traveling always wreaks havoc on my skin, and this cleanser helps it bounce back.
2. COCONUT CREAM
Another product to help calm and detoxify skin, RMS Raw Coconut Cream is an all-in-one makeup remover, cleanser, and moisturizer. We love the versatility just as much as the focus on health. Not all coconut oil is created equal: RMS's oil is made without the use of any heat or chemical solvents, so it has pretty much the most nutrients of any coconut oil out there, which helps skin in a big way. It's moisturizing, anti-bacterial, and packed with antioxidants.
3. BATHTUB TEA
Baths are my favorite way to reset after a season change. Not only are they super relaxing and aromatherapeutic, they're also great for softening and fortifying the skin. The herbs in Rica Bathtub Tea do just that, while also boosting skin metabolism. Skin metabolism is just like digestive metabolism in that it slows down as we age and expose ourselves to environmental hazards (like too much summer sun). The herbs in this tea help repair the skin from free radicals and other damage the moment they soak in to your skin.
