Meet the Travel Writer: Liza Foreman

Hometown: My suitcase or currently somewhere between London, Paris, and Los Angeles.
Occupation: Journalist.
Favorite destinations: Kyoto, Venice, Delhi, Whitstable, Paris, Havana.
Dying to visit: Tibet, Nepal, Bhutan, more of India.
Bizarre travel rituals: I travel sometimes as much as nine months a year, so I do my sports routine on the road which means finding a pool each day, a weekly dance class, acupuncture, and massage. I have danced and swum my way around the world.
In-flight relaxation regime: Eat salt and vinegar crisps and drink black tea. Stare out the window when it gets bumpy. Ignore seat mates and hide under a blanket.
Always in carry-on: My laptop!

See it all or take it easy? See it all.
Drive or be driven? Be driven.
Travel hero: My grandparents, who lived in Japan in the 1930s, in Shanghai and India in the 1940s, and in the Sudan both before and after all the civil war.
Weirdest thing seen on travels: Every day in Los Angeles.
My favorite hotel is The Grand Hotel et de Milan because the first time I stayed there, I was in a room used by Maria Callas. I didn't move for an hour because I was so captivated by the beauty of the decoration.
I dream about my meal at the Arab sandwich place opposite the George V Hotel in Paris which has now closed down.
Best hotel amenity: Swimming pool.
Favorite childhood travel memory: Going to Ireland every summer to visit family.
Everywhere I go, I check out the pools.
When I arrive in a new place, I learn the lay of the land by going online or walking.
I always bring home a pile of clothing from the world's largest Uniqlo store in Ginza, Tokyo.
If I never return to Los Angeles, it'll be too soon because I have spent far too much time there.
I travel for the visual stimulation of seeing new places, the excitement, the education, and because the only way to truly connect to the world and the people in it is by being part of their daily lives.
