Meet the Traveler: Shahrookh Cambata

We had the pleasure of traveling to India with Greaves CEO Shahrookh Cambata.

Occupation: Managing member / CEO of Greaves Tours.

Favorite destinations: India.

Dying to visit: The kingdom of Mustang in north-central Nepal.

Bizarre travel rituals: I type out the list of days and work out which clothes I am wearing on which day and when I can do laundry, so I cut down on packing.

In-flight relaxation regime: Sleeping and enjoying the lack of an internet connection, so no email. The one time I get to enjoy a bit of digital detox.

Always in carry-on: A Wi-Fi hotspot and international SIM cards.

Concierge or DIY? Concierge. There is no substitute for local knowledge.

See it all or take it easy? A blend of both.

Drive or be driven? Depends where I am. I am very independent and will drive wherever I can, including in India.

Travel hero: My wife, Carole.

Weirdest thing seen on travels: A first-class passenger who stood up in the aisle and changed into his pajamas in front of all the other passengers.

My favorite hotel is The Rambagh Palace in Jaipur because everyone is treated so royally and the staff create amazing experiences. Additionally, The Oberoi in Mumbai is my second home when I travel, and I know all the staff personally.

I dream about my meal at Martin's Corner in Goa, India. Delicious fresh lobster and seafood on the coast.

Best hotel amenity: Complimentary Wi-Fi.

Favorite childhood travel memory: Riding on the hot plate of a steam engine train, traveling from Bombay to South India.

Everywhere I go, I check out the bookstores.

When I arrive in a new place, I learn the lay of the land by buying six maps.

I always bring home something handmade out of wood by a local artisan.

If I never return to Tibet, it'll be too soon because of the incredible repression of the Tibetans.

I travel for the experience and enjoyment.
