Lamu Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is the oldest and best-preserved Swahili settlement in East Africa. The town is characterized by narrow streets and magnificent buildings influenced by a unique fusion of Swahili, Arabic, Persian, Indian, and European styles.
Our first stop is Shela Village; home to beautifully restored Swahili houses and a sand dune-lined beach stretching over twelve kilometers! All to ourselves.

Lamu Island has been called the donkey capital of Africa. Recent estimates indicate 24,000 people, 6,000 donkeys, and just two cars on the island. It is a place where there are donkey traffic jams, the largest humanitarian organization is a donkey sanctuary, and donkeys are key to earning a living.
