BRAAI - South Africa

The Scene: Laid back potluck-type event in a backyard with family and friends. In South Africa the men typically braai while women prepare the rest of the meal.

The Meal: Sausage, kebabs, chicken, pork, and steak are cooked on a wood-burning fire. The main side dish is a traditional porridge called pap. It has a similar texture to polenta. Fish and rock lobster are popular in coastal regions.
